Quickstart

Connect through Architect, the CLI, or MCP, then ask Dreamstate for the outcome you want.

Three ways to connect: the web app with Architect, the CLI, or an MCP client. Pick one and start asking for what you want.

All three reach the same workspace and credit balance.

Sign up on the pricing page. Growth is $99/mo with a 3-day free trial. Pro is $249/mo.

From the web app

Open Architect in the web app and describe a useful first outcome. Start with work that can be inspected in the workspace, rather than a broad request to automate everything at once.

Read my workspace Context and tell me which pack owns a small first result. Do not make changes until you show me the matching capability contract.

Architect can route the job, find its capability, and link saved work back to its screen. Continue with Your first session when you want the Context and worksheet workflow.

From the CLI

The CLI requires Node.js 22 or later. Install the @trydreamstate/cli package, which provides the dreamstate command.

npm install -g @trydreamstate/cli
dreamstate login

dreamstate login opens browser sign-in. After successful login, it installs every hosted Dreamstate skill for each detected Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor installation. Use dreamstate login --no-skills to skip that installation. On a remote or SSH machine, create a session in the app and run dreamstate login --token <token>. Login still succeeds if no supported agent is detected or skills cannot install, and it prints Run dreamstate skills install to install Dreamstate skills.

Describe what you want, then read the exact contract before any run.

dreamstate tools search --goal "build a workbook" --toolset tables
dreamstate tools get tables.workbooks.create

CLI reference lists every command and option.

From an MCP client

Point your client at https://mcp.trydreamstate.com/mcp. Use OAuth first, so there is no key to copy. Sign in to Dreamstate and pick a workspace in the client's OAuth flow. A workspace machine key is only for CI and clients without OAuth, sent as Authorization: Bearer ds_live_your_key. Keep machine keys out of prompts and tool inputs.

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dreamstate": {
      "url": "https://mcp.trydreamstate.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Start with whoami, then ask for the outcome. Read MCP server for connection and turn flow, or agent clients for supported client setup.

In Claude, open Customize > Connectors > Add custom connector, paste the URL, select Add, then select Connect. A Team or Enterprise Owner adds it from Organization settings > Connectors > Add > Custom > Web. In Advanced settings, select Use Claude's published identity or Register automatically.

In ChatGPT, open chatgpt.com/plugins, select +, then select Add custom MCP server. Enter Dreamstate and the URL, choose OAuth, review the warning, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin and sign in. Older Enterprise and Edu workspaces use Settings > Apps > Advanced settings > Developer mode. Open the connection and select Refresh after new tools ship. ChatGPT confirms write actions.

claude mcp add --transport http dreamstate https://mcp.trydreamstate.com/mcp

The in-app CLI and MCP page is at /dashboard/settings/api. It has Claude, ChatGPT, and CLI tabs, each with a Copy first prompt button. Read tools do not need confirmation because MCP tools declare readOnlyHint.

When it goes wrong

If the connection or workspace is wrong, reconnect and call whoami. If a capability run returns capability_not_fetched, search again, retain that turn's token, fetch the contract, and retry. A mutating run without an explicit mode returns mode_required.
